Currently there are two federal GMO/GE labeling bills that have been reintroduced in the 114 Congress and Label the Truth Ohio is joining forces with other states to garner support for mandatory labeling at the federal level. Here are the two bills and a simple explanation of each:

  We are encouraging everyone to support this bill:

Defazio Bill—Rep. DeFazio (D-OR) has introduced a bill that would mandate the labeling of all GMO/GE in food products.

 We must fight this bill:

 Pompeo Bill—The other is a dangerous voluntary labeling bill introduced by Rep. Pompeo (R-KS). This bill is being called The DARK (Deny Americans the Right to Know) Act because it would allow four things to happen that most Americans oppose:

1. Prevents states from taking action to mandate GMO/GE labeling
2. Turns federal law into an already broken ‘voluntary’ labeling system which has been proven not to work
3. Allows GE technology to be defined as ‘natural’ which it is NOT
4. Allows GE ‘safety’ science to be based on industry science rather than quality independent, third party science.
